Marathon became registered under the Commodity Exchange Act as a commodity pool operator in May 1997. It is also a member of the National Futures Association.
David R. Allen is the President, General Counsel, and sole principal of Marathon. He became a registered associated person and principal of Marathon on May 19, 1997. Mr. Allen has a B.A. in Economics from the University of Notre Dame and a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law.
From June 1984 to May 1987, Mr. Allen was a staff attorney in the General Counsel’s Office of the National Futures Association, the self-regulatory agency of the commodity industry. He was an associate at Chapman and Cutler, a large Chicago law firm, from May 1987 to October 1989. In November 1989, Mr. Allen established his own law firm that specializes in commodity law, with a particular concentration in working with CTAs and organizing commodity funds.
Mr. Allen founded Marathon in May 1997 in order to better serve certain of his clients that wanted to manage a fund but not act in an administrative capacity. He now has expanded Marathon to serve CTAs that are not his client.
